New Bingsjö Waltz

Logged in to youtube and found this new Bingsjö Waltz by Päkkos Gustav and Pelle Gustavsson. I have acctually never heard this tune. Anyone know what it’s called?

Ellika Frisell on youtube

I found a video from the user aols23, who has many good videos (who is this guy?). Ellika plays an orsa polska and it’s really nice to see how she handles the violin.

This is also an orsa polska played on a viola. Nice sound! As you might know, I have recorded this tune myself, and barskkvartetten has also done the same.

I also noticed that ellika has her own channel on youtube. Here you can see some videos with her and Solo Cisshoko. For instance this one, Brödkakan!

Bingsjö photos

For you who were not at Bingsjöstämman I have gathered a photo set for you. This is also for you who want to know what it’s like.

Also I have recorded my first video in my new apartment in Linköping.

See more here.

Magnus Holmström plays Sven Donat

This is a really good tune played by Magnus Holmström.

Pelle Björnlert and Johan Hedin plays many tunes by Sven Donat. The style is really interesting, baroque but still folky. Magnus plays the tune more like a classical dalecarlia-polska with the emphasis on the one and the three, instead of the more even slängpolska style Pelle and Johan plays.

Magnus is a really good nyckelharpa player, as you can see on the video.

Påhl Olle on youtube!

I was so psyched when I found this video on youtube. Påhl Olle is one of the best fiddlers ever in the Swedish, and his way of harmony fiddling was arguably the best ever.

In this video he plays a tune that I know as “Grändörpolska” from Boda. He plays the tune together with Jonny Soling, who was my teacher at Malungs Folkhögskola.

Here Olle plays by himself, two tunes from Ore. These tunes are available on the record Låtar från Ore/Tunes from Ore where Olle plays together with Nils Agenmark.

Fantastic to see these videos, hopefully the signature aols23 can add some more!

Joel Bremer

Joel Bremer is the name of one of the best traditional young fiddlers of Sweden. He has really been going for genuine tradition fiddling, and also for technical mastery.

On his youtube page a series of videos are available. I am posting some videos where he plays some Bingsjö tunes. Joel has been studying for Ole Hjorth, who is one of the gigants of the Bingsjö tradition.

The last video is a tune from Uppland. Hjort Anders played many Uppland tunes, since he left Bingsjö as an adult.

Joel is a great fiddler and I really recommend his videos. He has also made an album that can be bought by contacting joel. Try his myspace.

Dan Palmqvist

My old classmate from Jonnykursen, Malungs folkhögskola, has graduated from Ingesund’s musical high school (högskola på svenska). Above is a funny tune from Hälsingland.

Dan is also playing in a group called Barskkvartetten, which is an interesting group. I have been interested in hearing folk music with the setting of a classical quartet. Barskvartetten is really good, and has an own myspace page.

The last video I am recommending is a classical folk tune from Hälsingland. Really fun to hear some new tunes played in a traditional way.

See all videos from Dan’s concert on his youtube page. Also be sure to check out his myspace!

Mattias Pérez Trio - MP3

Mattias Pérez Trio
“MP3″
(Nordic Tradition)
***

ERIK SVANSBO

Ranarim video

I stumble upon this nice video of Ranarim while browsing youtube. When I listened to their record I didn’t care much for this tune but now it feels better. Really good folk-pop!

I also found this video of Ranarim in a duet with scottish folk group Malinky. They sing one verse in swedish and one verse in some strange swenglish-variant. Super cool

A great arrangement

Just saw this video by Kärlekskollektivet from the world championships of studentspelsmanslag. Really great arrangement! Made me smile.

Se more videos from the championships here.
